Volkswagen April Fools Joke
I was interested in this article because companies don't show enough humor in the media. I think that more companies should show humor because it makes them more relatable and makes them seem more human than money hungry robots. Essentially, Volkswagen made an April Fools Joke about a new SUV that was going to be entirely electric. They were going to redo their brand and make it more in tuned to Americans going to electric vehicles. Volkswagen is joining other car companies in the voltage world.
The maker made a video to support this rebranding, and had an extensive brand campaign. Right now a lot of vehicles are rebranding their looks and Volkswagen decided to join in. So for Volkswagen to rebrand wouldn't be unusual or shocking. Another takeaway from this is that I like how they were going the ecological route.
I think the relevance with car companies rebranding is that it's something that a lot of other companies are doing. Rebranding happens in giant waves like this because it's something that companies need to keep updated to keep people drawn in to buy their products.
The value proposition of Volkswagen is towards being affordable and towards a younger generation because the beetle is really good on gas mileage and is compact and easily driven. Volkswagens also last a long time and they are good cars. The marketing approach is unique in that they show humor, as previously stated, and that I would buy a vehicle from them because of the joke. With this joke, they were competing with other companies that sell electric vehicles.
I learned that all companies should have humor and approach marketing the way Volkswagen has. Because of this I think it grabbed a lot of attention, even if it was a joke. They do actually have the new SUV they were going to rebrand the company for. It’s geared towards being family friendly because it can haul a lot things, and has room for a large family. The SUV is electric, and can go about 250 miles before running out of power. If you charge the car at a fast charger, then it will get 60 miles in 10 minutes.
These vehicles are available to order right now and will be delivered from the factory to you if you buy them outright. They are about 40k at base price and will obviously go up if you order anything extra. Because of this joke, it made me check out the website because I was curious. This is why marketing is such an important thing for companies. It causes people to become curious about their products and 8 times out of 10, people will buy their products.
